Games Night
Games Night began in its present form in 2002 as a spin off from a Children’s Bowls session held before the adult Bowls on a Monday night.
Friday night was the obvious night to hold it as there was no school on the following day. We began with very basic equipment, some bought and some donated. However in 2004 we were given an “Awards For All Grant” of £5,000 which enabled us to buy more equipment and pay for the expertise of some outside help on a few occasions to do more ambitious projects, like the Mural of the area above the piano in the Hall.
We run on Friday night from 7-00 till 8-30 in school term time and welcome children from 4 upwards though the younger ones may need a parent to stay with them. We run entirely on volunteers and welcome any help.
From September to Easter we are in the Hall and have pool, table tennis, air hockey and Knex and various activities like sewing, card making, cooking, jewellery making etc.. We have also had visits from “Silent World” and their animals, a trip to see and handle owls and a few trips to the Lyric Theatre and we have an occasional film in the Hall.
In the summer on fine nights we go to the Playing Field behind the Hall and have games of football, rounders, skipping and work on crafts outside.
