Fete 2004
The
2004 fete started off with rain. At 7.00 in the morning it did not look
too promising although the
forecast was for better later - whenever that is. Volunteers determined
to carry on regardless turned
out and all the fun things that make the fete slowly started to appear.
By 10.30 the sun appeared
which cheered everyone no end, and from there on it was all joy and happiness.
Those
who needed the water slide were not disappointed,
it became hot and the water refreshing, be it sliding or dunking, they all got wet. The biggest bouncy castle we had ever seen kept many young and old amused all afternoon.
The heat rose as the day progressed and many took to the
chairs and sat it out, just taking in the happy scenes around
them.
The
clowns came again, and entertained everyone, and we all had a close look
at ancient history with the Silent Whispers. They held young and old in awe with some very
original action and stories.
Stalls
did well, as did the varied refreshments available. Silent auction had some unusual prizes, none less than one charming "young"
lady who offered an hour of her time to the highest bidder.
The bids on the field were not that exciting but the winners follow up
in The Plash later raised a further £55 to the days takings and the
tape of the laughter and shrieking is being widely circulated.
Radio
Pembroke came and did interviews that were replayed the following Monday. They should have come in the evening and enjoyed the laughter with the rest of us. HTV next year I guess?
Best
fete we have ever had - who
knows what makes the best?
No one's complained as yet, so it's already in the lead.
Next year will be as good if not better, so watch out on Saturday July 23rd 2005.
The
organisers would like to thank in particular all those who
helped on, before and after the day to put the event on and
those who helped out by way of sponsorship; all those all those who came and spent their time and money enjoying themselves, and finally those who came along with generous donations.
The total raised over and above the running costs was £1485, and
this will go towards further
equipment for the Park, as agreed jointly between the two committees.
We
thank everyone for their support and let's see you all
again next year.
