Fete
2005
Rather
as last year, the weather and in particular the forecasters threatened
us with a real wet day. The day didn't dawn too well, overcast with rain
in the air. However as the morning past, it brightened such that by eleven
we were in bright warm sunshine.
This prevailed for
the rest of the day, until a sharp shower around six when we were tidying
away, caused frantic packing of the last few items. Then the rain really
set in and Sunday was a really wet miserable day
But we had our fete.
As
popular as ever the water slide. Children from miles around come for this,
and of course the dunking stool compliments the slide.
We
really need a local celebratory to climb aboard and raise some real interest
and this year we had the biggest splash for some years from Christie,
Landlady of the "Splash Inn"
Many
other of the traditional stands and events were with us again. The Clowns
are always popular, as are the Archers. This year as a consequence of
new safety rules they had to move to our neighbours field. So many thanks
to Tony and Lyn for allowing us in.
A
new attraction this year was the Rodeo Bull. It always had a few riders
but never found the daring "old soul" it needed to get the hands
deep down into pockets and raise a real laugh or ten
The
Hall show this year was the best we have ever had both in numeracy and
quality. The revised schedule no doubt helped us there too. The Hall was
filled, and stewards struggled to find enough space to show off all the
exhibits at their best. A special word of thanks goes to these stewards
who really did work their socks off throughout the day. Well done to them
and we must not forget thanks to our judges either. Without entries there
is no show so thank you too for all those who entered, as it's your effort
and time that makes our show.
The
organisers would like to thank in particular all those who helped on,
before and after the day to put the event on and those who helped out
by way of sponsorship; all those all those who came and spent their time
and money enjoying themselves,
and finally those who came along with generous donations.
The total raised over and above the running costs was £1100, and
this will go this year to the Community Association |
